Human
rights lawyer, Dr. Tunji Braithwaite, says there is an ongoing
revolution in the country with the emergence of President Muhammadu
Buhari as the country’s leader.
Braithwaite, who commended Buhari’s
anti-corruption crusade, said political leaders trying to alter the
course of change in the country would fail.
The elder statesman spoke on Sunday night during a programme on Channels Television entitled “Politics Today”.
He said, “The fact that Buhari emerged as
President is revolutionary. Those members of his party who believed
that they could get covered by him and those who believed that by
associating with him, that their tracks would be covered are making
great mistakes. There is a revolution in the country. We have been
praying for this kind of revolution.
“You have seen so many countries where
many ex-presidents and former prime ministers are facing trials and
jailed. We should encourage Buhari to go after corrupt leaders. Buhari
is a candidate of the voiceless and the oppressed; not the candidate of
the APC. It was just because there must be a platform to use.
“The
people are now more enlightened. Revolution is at the door. No
political leader can manipulate people’s lives. Obasanjo tried it with
his bogus third term bid. You saw how the fellow ended.”
Responding to the allegations filed by
the ruling All Progressives Congress against the immediate past
government of the Peoples Democratic Party, Braithwaite described the
APC as the pot calling the kettle black.
He said both the APC and the PDP had been
recycling the same set of leaders since 1999 and that there was no
difference between them.
