First gold won for Nigeria by Onuah

Dream team

Elizabeth Onuah, on Tuesday won Team Nigeria’s first gold at the Brazzaville 2015 Games.Debutant Onuah who hails from Edo State won the gold in the weightlifting event when she lifted 53kg. in the Women’s category.
Onuah’s feat came on a day Samson Siasia tutored Dream Team defeated rival Ghana by 2-0 in the soccer event. Second half strikes by Junior Ajayi and Kingsley Sokari in the 55th and 75th minute gave Nigeria victory in the keenly contested match.
Nigeria will now face Senegal on Saturday in their second and last group game. The group only has three countries following the withdrawal of Egypt.

Siasia commended his boys for rising to the occasion against Ghana, even as he charged them to remain focused as the race for the ultimate prize, which is to win the soccer gold medal had just started.
Meanwhile, one of the Nigerian referees chosen to officiate at the football event of the All Africa Games was nearly dropped over his poor fitness level.
Daily Sunsports gathered exclusively that the Nigerian referee performed so badly during the pre Games Physical fitness exercise that he was recommended to be dropped from the Games proper.
“ The report by CAF on him did not do Nigeria any good, because it was as if we knew he was not good enough, yet we forwarded his name to CAF” An impeccable source told us in Brazzaville.
“ The only saving grace is that CAF did the nomination themselves,” Our source added.
CAF on the other hand argued that as long as a referee is on the FIFA listing of a country, it was assumed that he or she is good enough to be picked for any international engagement.
